Berlin

As in Prague, the natural way to the north, on my trip around the world, is to go through Berlin.

Germany – A brief history

Berlin, capital of Germany, is located on the east-west commercial and geographical axis, making it the capital of the kingdom of Prussia and, from 1871, capital of Germany.

During the second war it was totally destroyed and divided, separating the communist and capitalist worlds.

In 1961 a concrete barrier was built, the Berlin wall.

Becuse all wars, bombs, fights etc. it was totally destroyed.

Even the Berlin wall is no more, it has just a few meters.

Berlin the reconstructed city.

Berlin is located 180 km south of the Baltic Sea, 190 km north of the border between Germany and the Czech Republic, and 89 km km west of Poland.

It lies in the glacial valley of the River Spree, which runs through the city center.

The city has a lot of history, art and has become very popular with students and artists, writers who have become the new immigrants.

It is full of events and things to do. Although most places and buildings are “new” they hide a lot of history, but we only know what happened if we can admire it.

When arriving in the city everything is very modern and you don’t see anything that reminds you of what happened.

An example of this is Checkpoint Charlie, which is the famous access gate in eastern and western Germany, but today it is just an ordinary street, with no trace of what it was before.

Now is time to go to Amsterdam.
